05 — In His Own Words
I think it might be a combination of natural alchemy and it being a revolutionary time. What was going on in technology was leading to evolutions in hip-hop and house and all these crazy things. Now, I'm always trying to go back to this state of mind. I'm trying to unlearn and not focus on the details, just keep the raw energy.I:Cube — The Ransom Note, 2018
The screen puts a kind of distance between the artist and the music, whereas a drum machine has this instant intuitive feel you cannot replicate.Anthem Magazine
Hardware vs. software is not really the issue. Now you can do everything with a laptop. I still have this love for machines, the energy and electricity you can feel. I'm not an analog snob, but I think it's the most intuitive way for making this kind of music.Anthem Magazine
Leaving all the machines switched on for weeks (because some sounds and settings couldn't be saved), recording only 1 minute of a track, and erasing everything. On his early process — Torture the Artist, 2018
Too many records and producers to mention but if I was a fly and I could also travel back into time, I would say — Bernard Parmegiani, Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus studio during the Basic Channel years, King Tubby, Cony Plank and Drexciya for starters. On artistic inspirations — Torture the Artist, 2018
Transpiration in French means 'sweating.' This sums up the real club thing for me… the physical aspect… music for the body.Anthem Magazine
At the time, things were more simple and naive. That is probably what I regret most. It would be impossible now to be in the same state of mind. At the time, you could make five tracks in a day and be happy with it… now it takes ages to finish just one.Resident Advisor, 2018
We were both quite naive and we didn't know what to expect. There was no plan. I think musically we shared a lot of visions and a way of making music. Very instinctive, no real plan. Not trying to follow the trends. Being independent means things are a little more difficult but you also have total freedom. On Versatile Records — The Ransom Note, 2018
I was stuck in this club routine which was sucking a lot of my energy and I didn't have much time or ideas in the studio. The timing was good and felt right because I had an artist's residency for one year in this incredible place which gave me some time to explore what I was doing and concentrate. On Villa Medici — The Ransom Note, 2018
I think sometimes you need to step out and do different things, explore new techniques and new music. It's just a matter of cycles — you have to surf on the waves and accept some less intense periods.Resident Advisor, 2018
The thing with remixes is that you don't have to think too much. You can experiment with new things and your ego is less involved.Torture the Artist, 2018
M Megamix is not really a DJ mix, it's more like a kind of hip hop beatmakers mixtape.Plain & Simple, 2012
Il faut accepter que le morceau ne sera peut-être pas parfait.Qobuz Magazine, 2023
"You have to accept that the track may not be perfect."
Obviously this early musical period has a special place, as it was done with no real knowledge of how all the music I loved was done at the time. I think some of it is the best music I ever made, even with all the mistakes. I wish I could still make music in that way. In a totally free and spontaneous way.I:Cube — Torture the Artist, 2018
Don't believe the hype, take your time, go outside the studio, do different things. Listen to a lot of records and learn your history.I:Cube — Torture the Artist, 2018
It's all about capturing THAT moment, playing with your instinct, and letting yourself go.I:Cube — Cubo Live Sessions liner notes
I would be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated about this. I think he really deserves some more recognition because I don't know many producers out there who have been making music for so long — especially in the 'dance' scene — who actually get better every year.Gilb'R on I:Cube — Resident Advisor, 2018
